Exterminator makes shocking discovery after exterior of house gets 'completely destroyed'

Nick Castro wasn't prepared for what the 'crazy' animal left behind in the walls of the house.

There’s extreme hoarding and then there’s this.

An pest control expert made a mind-blowing discovery in the home of one of his clients and it has now left the internet stunned.

Nick Castro, the owner of Nick’s Extreme Pest Control in California, has over two decades worth of experience in the pest control industry.

He has encountered countless bizarre situations in his career, but one recent situation definitely takes the cake… or shall we say acorn.

Castro was called to a house to deal with a pesky woodpecker that was causing damage to its siding by storing acorns in the holes it had made.

When Castro began cutting into the wall to remove the acorns, what he found left him in shock.

“They just kept coming and coming, non-stop,” he told The Dodo.

“Acorns were thought to be only a quarter of the way up the wall. Turned out, they were piled high up to the attic of the house.”

One picture taken by Castro shows a relatively small square-shaped hole in one of the walls in the house, with a large pile of acorns spilling out onto the floor.

But much to Castro’s surprise, this was only the beginning.

Castro made more holes around the house and the acorns kept spilling out. In the end, they gathered around 700 pounds of the nuts which was enough to fill eight large rubbish bags.

The woodpecker had stored basically transformed the house into its very own acorn hub to stash its ever-growing collection. This created clear woodpecker holes all over the place.

“You would think this bird had stored food all over,” he explained.

“The bird had completely destroyed the exterior of the house with holes it had made. Acorns were stored all over siding and trim.”

He found around 700 pounds worth of acorns.

The exterminator described the bird as ‘crazy’ and we can totally see why. Other pictures taken by Castro show the floor completely covered by acorns.

The bird had put acorns through the chimney stack.

“We actually saw him there when we were. There putting more in the holes he created.”

“Acorns were piled from the lower floor to about 20 feet up into the attic.”

Castro shared pictures of his discovery on Facebook. "Came across this on a job. Bird was a bit of a hoarder. Filled up about 8 garbage bags full of acorns weighing in about 700 lbs. Unreal never came across something like this," he captioned the viral post.

One Facebook user replied: "That's like the Motherlode of finds. That woodpecker was prepping his food storage. WOW cool story."

Castro hasn't seen anything like this before.

Another person quipped: "He or she is a doomsday prepper. Ha."

A third follower shared: "That’s pretty crazy."

Someone else wrote: "How could you undo all that hard work?"

The homeowners patches the holes outside the house, the acorns were removed and the woodpecker was left alone as ‘all animals are handled humanely and never euthanised’ Castro says.

Hopefully the woodpecker finds somewhere more suitable to store its nuts.
