A mother was disturbed when she followed an odd smell into her child's bedroom only to discover a dead body.

An unnamed Los Angeles mother was following her nose to a strange and 'distinct gas smell' at her home before she made the gruesome discovery.

After getting to the source of the strange odour, she found the body of a woman wrapped up in plastic.

She made the discovery around 1:15 am on August 13, 2023 and immediately called the police, with officers arriving at her home on Wall Street not long after.

According to local reports, paramedics also attended the scene but sadly pronounced the woman dead.

The woman discovered in the bedroom has since been named by Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Hannah Rachel Collins.

It is not known how long the woman's body had been in the bedroom before it was found.

Police announced at the time they would be investigating the incident as a homicide.

The name or photo of the suspect involved in the case have also not yet been disclosed but the police have said he is in his twenties.

It's not clear whether Ms Collins knew the person who killed her, and no arrests have been made at the time of writing.

A friend of Collins, Courtney Sanders, also spoke to the media and said the victim spent her high school and college years in Mississippi.

Sanders also admitted she was shocked about the death and the discovery of her body in this manner.

“When I think of Hannah I think of fun,” Sanders said.

“She would come to Mississippi State football games, tailgate with us, spend the night with us. We just had a lot of fun.”

“It’s mind-blowing. I’m still shocked by it, to be honest."

She added: “Sometimes you fear that you may get bad news about somebody that you care about, but you never fear that I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning and I’m going to hear that she was found dead wrapped in a plastic bag.

“I never saw her be mean to anybody. Ever. Everybody makes bad choices and goes down bad paths, but there’s always an opportunity and there’s hope to turn around. And that was taken from her.”
