Kamala Harris has shared her latest statement on 'becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee for President'.

Following Joe Biden having dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris has since secured the support of enough delegates to earn the Democratic Party's nomination to run for US President, and she's released a statement ahead of beginning her presidential tour.

Biden took to social media on 21 July to reveal he'd be stepping down from standing in the 2024 presidential election against Donald Trump.

Following his announcement, Biden shared another message endorsing his vice president - Harris - offering his 'full support' for her 'to be the nominee of [the Democratic] party this year'.

He resolved: "Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."

And Harris has since taken to her social media to give the latest update.

Harris took to Twitter earlier today (23 July) to 'proud[ly]' reveal she's 'earned the support needed to become [the Democratic Party's] nominee'.

She added: "And as a daughter of California, I am proud that my home state's delegation helped put our campaign over the top. I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon."

Harris' official statement explained the election will 'present a clear choice between two different visions'.

"Donald Trump wants to take our country back to a time before many of us had full freedoms and equal rights," she said. "I believe in a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to go ahead."

She said: "Over the new few months, I will be traveling across the country talking to Americans about everything that is on the line.

"I fully intend to unite our party, unite our nation, and defeat Donald Trump in November."

A tally by the Associated Press revealed Harris obtained the support of 2,214 delegates in the first ballot. However, it won't be until 19 August at the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago until Harris is made the official candidate.

Harris thanked President Biden and 'everyone in the Democratic Party who has already put their faith in' her.

"And I look forward to taking our case directly to the American people," she continued.

Biden continued his support for Harris by adding: "I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to be out there on the campaign with her, with Kamala. I'm going to be working like hell. Both as a sitting president, getting legislation passed, as well as campaigning."
