The World’s Most Expensive Yachts And The Billionaires Who Own Them

| Last updated

The closest most people will get to a multimillion pound yacht is seeing them on the TV or in magazines – or if we’re really lucky, renting one out for a week.

That’s not the case for the mega wealthy out there, who not only rent yachts, but also buy them and sail around on their month-long holidays.

The yachts cost serious cash – in fact, you could probably rebuild the Greek economy or buy yourself a sports team with the eye-watering amounts that get spent on them.

With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at 10 most expensive ones, so from 10 to one, here is the countdown of the biggest and best luxury yachts out there:

10) The Rising Sun – $200million

The tenth yacht on the list cost a whopping $200 million – small change for owner David Geffen, who can now boast having 82 rooms over five floors, a basketball court, a movie theatre and a wine cellar – among many other things.

9) Seven Seas – $200million

Just beating The Rising Sun, this yacht has seven suites that can also double as cabins, and transport 12 people on the cruise of a lifetime.

Of course it comes with the standard things like a cinema, infinity pool, gym and helipad, because what self-respecting yacht that costs roughly the GDP of a third world country doesn’t?

8) Lady Moura – $210million

Owned by billionaire Nassar Al-Rashid, the yacht has 24 karat gold lettering and embellishments.

It can also accommodate a massive 30 guests and 60 crew members, with it being the ninth largest personal yacht in the world when made – but now stands at number 28 in the list.

7) Al Mirqab – $250million

Given it’s owned by the Prime Minister of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabar Al Thani, you’d expect it to be pretty decent.

It contains 10 bedrooms, a helipad, swimming pool and a section of VIP suites as well, just for the owner.

6) Dilbar – $263million

It’s about time a Russian billionaire came into the mix, and Alisher Usmanov comes in at number six, with a yacht that takes a crew of 47 to run it.

It’s also one of the largest yachts in the world, standing at 360ft long and 50ft high.

5) Al Said – $300million

Named after owner Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said of Oman, the super-yacht even has a concert hall that can accommodate a large orchestra, because who doesn’t enjoy listening to a symphony while sailing the seven seas?

It reaches 22 knots, has a crew of 154, and accommodates 70 people.

4) Superyacht A – $323million

Looking more like a ship you would expect a Bond villain to have, the Russian billionaire-owned vessel has three swimming pools and a master suite that can accommodate six guests.

It also has two other boats on board, that you can go back to shore on.

3) Dubai – $350million

For that much money, you have to expect something pretty impressive, and with the Dubai, you certainly get it.

At the minute, it’s owned by the Sheik of Dubai (hence the name) and even has a glass staircase. That’s when you know you’re on a luxury yacht.

2) Eclipse, estimated cost – $450million to $1.2billion

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich owns a yacht so expensive that it’s construction value is kept underwraps and has even been estimated to be as much as $1.5billion.

Abramovich is a generous guy, and even lets his Chelsea players borrow the yacht should they do well enough – and given it boasts its own private defence system, two helipads and a private submarine. You can understand why it comes in at number two on the list.

1) Streets of Monaco – $1billion

The most expensive yacht in the world, and one that doesn’t even have an owner yet.

The reason for that is said yacht is still under construction, but once built, you can imagine it will have helipads, pools, cinemas and more.

And will obviously be bought by some super wealthy oil baron.
