Sunny D has released an alcoholic beverage

Harvest Hill, the brand behind the beloved beverage, has said that fans had been asking for an alcoholic version of SunnyD for some time.

90’s babies rejoice – your favourite childhood drink now has an alcoholic version as SunnyD has now launched its own vodka seltzer!

Harvest Hill, the brand behind the beloved beverage, announced their new line yesterday, with the tipple expected to hit US stores from March 11 onwards.

According to Chief Marketing Officer Ilene Bergenfeld, people had been ‘asking’ for the product for some time after enjoying Sunny D as a 'mixer'.

"So, we looked at the hard seltzer category, and thought, good, but we can do better. And SunnyD Vodka Seltzer was born." she added.

With the same sweet orange taste (and a little vodka), the new drink has around 4.5 percent alcohol and is also sold in 4-pack of 12oz (354ml) cans.

Whilst it’s unclear whether the boozy beverage will hit UK shops anytime soon, the suggested retail price is expected to be around $9.99 (£8.44) in the US.

According to Sunny D's taste testers, the drink had a 'great color, texture, and aroma. Great after taste, very refreshing and easy to drink'.

"We have developed something we know adult SunnyD fans and hard seltzer enthusiasts alike will be proud to enjoy." Bergenfeld said, adding that they were 'looking forward' to hearing what the fans think.

And it looks like the reviews are in.

Content creator @livelikelys01 managed to get her hands on a can of the new seltzer and compared it to McDonald’s High C orange juice after she reviewed it on TikTok.

Describing it as not dissimilar to a mimosa, she said that she couldn’t taste the vodka thanks to the tangy soda.

“You can’t really taste the vodka in it, which I think is good. It just tastes like an orange soda…it’s not too artificial” she told viewers.

She then scored it a high 8.5 out of ten, while her fellow taste-tester added that it would make a 'good morning drink'. But we wouldn’t necessarily advise drinking this in the am.

However, some were not so sure about the new seltzer, with one commenter joking: “Sunny D is now selling an orange vodka seltzer... this is either the high point of civilization or the surest sign of its downfall. (Also... where can I buy some in San Diego? Anyone know???)”

Taking to Twitter, others shared their thoughts, with one tweet saying that it may be a little embarrassing to order the hard version of a childhood drink.

They tweeted: “We got gin & soda, purple drank, and 2 kinds of Sunny D Vodka Seltzer.”

However, some were a little unimpressed, with a particularly angry reaction reading: “Sunny D is kinda gross by itself. So let’s add vodka and seltzer water. F***in kids. Just drink whiskey like an adult!”

Though we’re still not sure whether the drink will become of a tipple of choice, we can’t wait to try the boozy beverage. Bottoms up!
