Republican Who Claimed The Sky Is 'Woke' Gets Owned By The Dictionary

A Louisiana Republican tried to claim the sky was 'woke'. Pretty much everyone has been left baffled by it - including the dictionary.

A Louisiana Republican tried to claim the sky was 'woke'. Pretty much everyone has been left baffled by it — including the dictionary.

It really is a shame that 'woke' has become co-opted by the far-right and moaners, given its actual definition is a positive thing. As per Dictionary.com, being woke is 'having or marked by an active awareness of systemic injustices and prejudices, especially those related to civil and human rights'.

In response to people across the world become a little more socially conscious amid Black Lives Matter protests and advancements for LGBTQ+ rights and representation — becoming 'woke', by definition — some people have turned the word into an insult. Of course, it helps if the insult actually makes any bloody sense.

Rep. Clay Higgins has represented Louisiana's 3rd Congressional District since 2017. He's a known supporter of Donald Trump, even describing Joe Biden's inauguration as 'the final hour of conspiracy to dismantle the American election process, and the first hour of conspiracy to dismantle America', echoing baseless allegations of election fraud.

In a recent tweet, he appeared to address Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to place his nuclear deterrence forces on high alert and 'enhanced combat duty' in response to Western sanctions and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss's comments. While experts have downplayed the announcement as 'rhetoric' and bluffing, it's natural people would feel concerned over the prospect of nuclear war.

Alas, Higgins has no patience for the youth's worries over war breaking out in eastern Europe — so much so, he's even branded the sky as 'woke'.

'You millennial Leftists who never lived one day under nuclear threat can now reflect upon your woke sky. You made quite a non-binary fuss to save the world from intercontinental ballistic tweets,' he wrote.

What does it mean? I consider myself a fairly perceptive person, and I don't have a scooby — and neither does anyone else. 'Not a single millennial — myself included — understands what this means,' one user wrote. 'World Word Salad Spinning Champion! Thanks and Congrats Clay for your success and leadership in WSS (Word Salad Spinning)!' another tweeted. 'It looks like you're writing unsubstantiated nonsense. Would you like to turn on all caps?' a third joked in the vein of Microsoft's Clippy.

It also attracted the attention of Dictionary.com's official Twitter account. 'We’re not entirely sure what this tweet is supposed to mean, and we’re literally the dictionary,' it tweeted.
