A lot of people have been left baffled after others started paying tribute following the death of ‘Unabomber’ Ted Kaczynski.

Kaczynski was no doubt an enigmatic character – a Harvard-educated maths prodigy who completely turned against modern living and produced a large manifesto espousing the philosophy behind his bombings. However, he ultimately did kill three people and injured many more during his 17-year bombing campaign in the USA.

The 81-year-old’s death was announced by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on June 10, with prison officials believing that he had died by suicide.

In December 2021, it had been announced that he was suffering with late-stage cancer, and had been moved from his prison – where he was serving eight life sentences consecutively without possibility of parole – to a prison medical facility in North Carolina.

Kaczynski led a bombing campaign across the USA between 1978 and 1995, during which he killed three people and injured a further 23.

All the while, he was living off-grid in a tiny shack in Montana.

The FBI gave him the codename UNABOM – the university and airline bomber – which eventually led to his media nickname, the Unabomber.

After his death, a surprising number of people started paying tribute to him, stating that through his manifesto he might have actually made some good points, and even supporting his cause, which – lest we forget – did result in innocent people being killed.

On Reddit, one such tribute read: “Ted ‘The Unabomber’ Kaczynski was found dead in his prison cell this morning.

“Rest in Peace.”

The post continued: “His [manifesto] ‘Industrial Society and its Future’ is a great explanation on why ‘Everyone Is Going To Hell’.

“He was truly far ahead of his time, RIP Ted.”

Other comments read like ‘bro was right’ and ‘damn homie, thanks for the manifesto’ as well as ‘RIP king’.

Whilst we can’t be sure whether these are genuine reactions – it’s on Reddit, remember? – a lot of people are baffled as to why anyone would be paying homage to the domestic terrorist after his death.

One comment read: “He was either so intelligent it drove him crazy or was a man with serious mental health issues.

“Imagine the good he could have done. Instead he went to the dark side. Killing people to make a point is NEVER a good idea.”

Another said: “Rest in peace? More like rot in Hell.”

And a third wrote: “I can't believe this post praising a TERRORIST has majority positive upvotes.”

Providing a more circumspect view, one comment stated: “While I have no sympathy for his murdering antics, he had a sad life.

“His intelligence was wasted with him rotting away in prison.

“In another life, he would have been an asset for humanity instead of this garbage.”
