In the wake of screen legend Ray Liotta's death, people are taking to Twitter to share their love for one of his most 'overlooked' films.

Yesterday (26 May), news of Liotta's sudden passing was announced. He was 67 years old.

The iconic New Jersey actor is said to have died in his sleep late Wednesday/early Thursday while in the Dominican Republic filming his new movie Dangerous Waters.

Tributes have poured in for the actor, including from Martin Scorsese, who gave Ray Liotta his breakout role as Henry Hill in Goodfellas.

The Oscar-winning director said of his friend: "I’m absolutely shocked and devastated by the sudden, unexpected death of Ray Liotta. He was so uniquely gifted, so adventurous, so courageous as an actor.

"Playing Henry Hill in Goodfellas was a tall order, because the character had so many different facets, so many complicated layers, and Ray was in almost every scene of a long, tough shoot.

"He absolutely amazed me, and I’ll always be proud of the work we did together on that picture. My heart goes out to his loved ones, and it aches for his loss, way too early."

Scorsese wasn't the only one to remark on Liotta's incredible work, with a host of fans taking to Twitter to share their love of one film in particular.

The film? Field of Dreams.

Sad day. Actor Ray Liotta died while filming a movie in Dominican Republic. His portrayal of Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1989's "Field of Dreams" was the catalyst for his great career. I watch it every year on the eve of Opening Day. His final line in FoD: "No, Ray...it was you" pic.twitter.com/Fx2IlXqHqz

If you've not watched the incredible 1989 film directed by Phil Alden Robinson, get on it immediately.

The film sees shoeless Joe Jackson, a baseball legend turned ghost, along with a host of other sports stars, turn up to play on a makeshift pitch made by Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner).

Fans adored Liotta's performances and took a moment to reflect on the film while remembering the beloved star.

One of my all time favourite films is Field of dreams, sad to learn that Hollywood legend Ray Liotta who starred in the film has passed away. pic.twitter.com/8PXhJu4bHZ

Another said of Liotta's films: ""Field of Dreams" & the 2 "Muppet" are too often overlooked. Indeed, Liotta had range."

A third wrote: "One of my all time favourite films is Field of dreams, sad to learn that Hollywood legend Ray Liotta who starred in the film has passed away."

In honour of the screen legend, we think we'll watch this one tonight too.
