People are now calling for Elon Musk to run for US President after taking over Twitter

Despite Musk not being eligible due to a clause in the Constitution, that didn’t stop people from declaring their support.

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, many people have been calling for him to become the next US president.

As the South African business magnate acquired the social media platform in October through his $44 billion (£33.3b) agreement, his leadership has left many divided.

While nearly one million people deactivated their Twitter accounts just days after the SpaceX founder took over the company, Musk’s advocacy for free speech has made some consider him a potential White House candidate.

The calls are growing after a one user asked their followers if people would vote him in.

Someone replied on Twitter, saying: “I would definitely consider it...He wouldn’t be able to run the government the same as his companies.”

Another said: “I would definitely support you knowing what you're talking about.”

While a third commented: “@elonmusk will get my support and vote should he decide to run for any public office; especially the Office of President.”

However, we have to burst that bubble for Musk's White House supporters.

The tech billionaire isn't eligible to become a US President due to the Constitution’s clause about the Commander in Chief needing to be a natural-born citizen.

Despite that fact, it didn’t stop users from declaring their support.

One person said: “Not born in The USA. not eligible. However I would vote for him if he was.”

While another shared: “President of Mars? I would support him!”

Although Musk himself can’t run for President, the billionaire has openly said he will back Trump’s rival Ron DeSantis, in 2024 if the Florida governor were to run.

According to The Guardian, the Tesla CEO tweeted DeSantis would be a ‘sensible and centrist’ leader.

“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far,” he wrote.

Musk has never shied away from criticizing the Biden administration.

Earlier this week, the tech entrepreneur tweeted 'My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci' seemingly mocking the President’s medical adviser.

He added a meme of Biden and Fauci, along with text that read ‘Just one more lockdown my king’, taking another dig at the infectious disease expert and his Covid-19 measures.

However, his tweet was met with fierce backlash, with former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly tweeting: "Elon, please don’t mock and promote hate toward already marginalized and at-risk-of-violence members of the #LGBTQ+ community.

"They are real people with real feelings. Furthermore, Dr Fauci is a dedicated public servant whose sole motivation was saving lives."
