The Back to the Future actor shared a heartfelt message for his son Sam Michael, who turned 34 this week.

Michael J. Fox has shared a heart-warming message to his son Sam Michael Fox for his birthday.

The Back to the Future actor, 61, took to Instagram this week to gush about his ‘baby boy’ who turned 34 on Tuesday (30 May).

Even though the message was for Sam, fans of the iconic actor couldn’t help but feel emotional about their father and son bond.

“Happy birthday to my big bouncing baby boy,” Fox wrote in the caption.

“You are the best,” he continued. “Proud to be your pops. Love you!”

The first picture in the Instagram carousel post shows Sam Michael blowing out his candles on a decadent chocolate birthday cake which would make Bruce Bogtrotter jealous.

The next two snaps show the father and son on what looks like a vacation to a waterfall. Fox has his arm wrapped around his son in one picture and kisses his cheek in the next.

This is the wholesome content we need!

Fans took to the comments to wish Sam a glorious birthday and obsesses over that chocolate cake.

“Never realized how much he looks like you until now! Happy birthday,” one fan wrote in the comments.

Another follower wrote: “He's your twin. Happy birthday to him!”

While a third person commented: “Holy heck what a cake!”

And a fourth shared: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sam, enjoy your day,” along with a birthday cake emoji.

Fox shares Sam Michael with wife Tracy Jo Pollan. The couple also have three daughters: twins Aquinnah Kathleen Fox and Schuyler Frances Fox, both 28, and 21-year-old Esmé Anabelle Fox.

Fox’s wife, who is also an actor, starred alongside him in the hugely popular ‘80s sitcom Family Ties in which she played his love interest.

The sitcom helped cement his place as a top actor in Hollywood and Fox recently admitted he had become quite cocky and thought it would be funny to play a joke on his co-star.

In his documentary, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, which also explores his struggle with Parkinson’s disease, he recalled a moment on set when Pollan called him an a**hole, which isn’t exactly how you would imagine anyone’s love story to begin.

"One day, we broke for lunch," he said. "After lunch, we picked up where we left off. The moment she said her first line, I detected a hint of garlic and sensed an opportunity to have a little fun at her expense. 'Whoa, a little scampi for lunch, babe?'

"At first she said nothing. Her expression didn't even change. But looking me dead in the eyes she said slowly, 'That was mean, and rude, and you're a complete and total f*king a**hole'."

Fox was caught off-guard by Pollan’s reaction, saying: "Nobody talked to me that way. This woman was completely unintimidated by whoever I thought I was.

"A pig is a pig no matter how many hit movies he's just had."
