Madeleine McCann Investigators Discover 'Shocking' New Evidence About SuspectAlamy/BILD

The Madeleine McCann case appears to be moving forward once again after a German TV channel claimed that it had discovered ‘shocking’ new evidence against a suspect related to the alleged kidnapping.

Two years ago, German authorities announced that Christian B – whose full name cannot be revealed under German privacy law – was being viewed as a prime suspect in the disappearance of three year-old Madeleine.

According to German TV station Sat.1, there is proof that Christian B was near Praia da Luz at the time that the British toddler went missing back in 2007.

Juliane Ebling, the channel’s editor, said, ‘The sad story of Madeleine McCann is a story that has many German facets.’

She added that one of her reporters, Jutta Rabe, ‘has researched shocking material in Germany, Portugal and England over the past months, which heavily incriminates Christian B’.

Christian B is currently already serving a seven-year sentence in Germany for raping a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005, and is also being investigated in three other cases.

They include the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Portugal in 2007 and the abuse of children in the Algarve town of São Bartolomeu de Messines in 2017. Christian B’s lawyer, Friedrich Fulscher, said his client ‘denies any involvement’ in Madeleine’s disappearance.

The German TV station’s claim comes just a few days after the UK’s Channel 5 announced a new documentary around the Madeleine McCann case that would question the evidence that has made Christian B the prime suspect.

Former police investigators working on Madeleine McCann: Investigating the Prime Suspect say they’ve found that Christian B has an alibi, which will be scrutinised in the three-part show.

The documentary saw a team of British investigators spend months in Portugal and Germany as they attempted to create a timeline of B’s movements at the time of McCann’s disappearance. Instead of finding evidence linking B to the case, though, the investigators claim that their work could see the case against the suspect collapse, stating that they can prove he was ’30 minutes away’ from Praia da Luz at the time of McCann’s disappearance.

The documentary is coming to Channel 5 soon.
