Death row inmate requested a whopping 29,000-calories for his last ever meal

Death row inmate requested a whopping 29,000-calories for his last ever meal

Gary Carl Simmons Jr requested huge orders from Pizza Hut and McDonald's before his execution for the murder of Jeffrey Wolfe in 1996.

A death row inmate had a 29,000 calorie final meal before his execution.

Gary Carl Simmons Jr was 49 years old when he received a lethal injection at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in June 2012 for the murder of Jeffrey Wolfe.

The former grocery store butcher used his meat carving knives to dismember Wolfe before scattering his remains in an alligator-infested bayou in 1996.

Before facing the consequences for his actions, Simmons asked for a final meal that could have fed a few dozen people.

Local Mississippi and Gulf news website Gulf Live reported he requested one Pizza Hut medium Super Supreme Deep Dish pizza, double portion, with mushrooms, onions, jalapeño peppers and pepperoni; pizza, regular portion, with three cheeses, olives, bell pepper, tomato, garlic and Italian sausage; 10 8-oz. packs of Parmesan cheese; 10 8-oz. packs of ranch dressing; one family size pack of Doritos nacho cheese flavour; 8 oz. jalapeño nacho cheese; 4 oz. sliced jalapeños; two large strawberry shakes; two 20-oz. cherry Cokes; one super-size order of McDonald's fries with extra ketchup and mayonnaise; and two pints of strawberry ice cream.

The list was shared as part of a briefing from the Mississippi Department of Corrections ahead of the execution.

It is unclear if he ate the entire meal, however ninety minutes before his execution, at a press conference held at 4.45 p.m. the Department of Corrections claimed he had eaten about half of his meal and sampled everything but the fries, a local blog reported.

The murder of 21-year-old Wolfe in August 1996 was drug-related.

According to records from the Mississippi Supreme Court, Wolfe and his girlfriend drove from Houston to Mississippi to collect a drug debt between $12,000 and $20,000.

When they arrived at Simmons’ house, he was with his accomplice Timothy Milano. The heinous pair told Wolfe that they did not have the money.

An argument erupted and Milano fatally shot Wolfe with a .22-caliber rifle.

Wolfe’s girlfriend was hog-tied and locked in a foot locker by Simmons, who later raped her. Court documents said he told her that ‘her life depended on how well she performed sexually’.

Afterwards, he returned Wolfe’s girlfriend to the box and went to the bathroom where he used his butter knives from work to dismember and gut Wolfe’s body in the bathtub.

The woman was able to escape from the foot locker and run to a neighbour’s house where she called police.

Simmons was sentenced convicted in August 1997 for kidnapping, rape and capital murder. He was sentenced to death.
