Elon Musk called out for taking one of the shortest flights ever

Elon Musk is being called out on Twitter for taking a nine-minute flight across California

Elon Musk is being called out on Twitter for taking possibly the shortest ever flight across California.

TransitCon CEO Hayden Clarkin took to Twitter on Sunday (21 August) to share a screengrab of Musk’s flight path, tweeting: “Elon Musk took a 9 minute flight to San Francisco from San Jose, which is 5 stops on Caltrain. I literally have no words.”

Needless to say, Clarkin’s followers were less than impressed, with one person writing: “It's selfish and wasteful in a climate crisis."

A second Twitter user said: “It’s not even an hour drive. Like if he didn’t want to slum it with us mere mortals he could’ve at least gone and driven,” while a third echoed: “I cannot stress to you how much this dude hates having to be around people.”

“He's a businessman with 0 concern for the environment beyond greenwashing. I'm surprised anyone would be surprised by stuff like this,” tweeted a fourth person, with a fifth adding: “Saving the environment my hole.”

However, others sided with Musk, with one person penning: “Sometimes buying time is worth it, and you can pay to offset carbon emissions. Not everything has to have a self-contained net zero emissions profile.”

Another added: “Have you considered that there may have been an actual reason for this? Perhaps the plane was scheduled for maintenance in San Jose, and maybe there were logistical issues. This doesn’t necessarily mean Elon was on the plane.”

“So? If I had @elonmusk 's wealth I would have done the same. Why would I ever use public ground transportation with the hoi polloi if I could afford private air? BUT, should there be a high enough carbon tax on all fossil fuels to achieve net negative footprint? ABSOLUTELY YES!” wrote a third Musk supporter.

UNILAD has approached Musk for comment.

Last month, Kylie Jenner was slammed for taking a three-minute trip on her private jet and bragging about her ownership of a plane on social media.

The 24-year-old shared an aesthetically pleasing black and white photo of her partner Travis Scott embracing her as the couple stood in between their two private jets.

"You wanna take mine or yours," the Kylie Cosmetics founder captioned the post.

All flights produce greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide from burning fuel, which contributes to global warming.

According to the BBC, private jets ‘generally produce significantly more emissions per passenger than commercial flights’.
