Four people have been arrested in connection with the killing of model Abby Choi after police found parts of her dismembered body in a refrigerator.

Choi's ex-husband Alex Kwong has appeared before a court in Hong Kong and been charged with her murder, along with his brother Anthony Kwong and their father Kwong Kau.

Kwong's mother, Jenny Li, was also charged with a count of perverting the course of justice and the four family members were held in custody without bail by the authorities.

The 28-year-old Choi was a model and influencer who recently featured in fashion publications Vogue and L’Officiel Monaco before she went missing for several days.

She had also recently featured for Dior at Paris Fashion Week.

Police released a statement explaining the charges that had been brought against Kwong and his family members, and that they found Choi's partial remains in a refrigerator in her former in-laws house in Tai Po.

Officers said the model had financial disputes over tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars with her ex-husband and his family.

Police discovered the skull, hair and ribs of a young woman they believe to be Choi inside a cooking pot that had been seized as evidence. Other human bones were found in another pot inside the house

Officials said there was a hole in the right rear of the skull, which they believe points towards a 'fatal attack' which killed the 28-year-old.

They said they believed Choi had been attacked inside a van, which has also been impounded as evidence, and taken to the house.

Choi leaves behind four children, a son and daughter aged 10 and eight respectively she had with Kwong, along with a six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son with her widower Chris Tam.

Police said Kwong was arrested after what officers called a 'failed attempt to flee by speedboat' and was allegedly carrying HK$500,000 ($63,000) and around $4 million worth of luxury watches.

Not all of Choi's remains have been found as of yet, with the search still ongoing while police are determining the date and time of her death.

Superintendent Alan Chung said the investigation was being hampered by the arrested suspects being uncooperative.

He said: "We want to find out as much as we can, not just to convict the murderers, but to give an answer to the deceased’s family, and return justice to the deceased.

"We’re still working on many clues. When we have any other clues we will do a thorough search again to find the torso and other missing parts of the body."

The four people arrested were denied bail and their hearing has been postponed until May.
