Argentinian authorities have offered an update on their investigation into Liam Payne's death, stating his body is yet to be returned home to the UK.

Payne fell from a third-floor balcony at his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last week and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reportedly, the One Direction star was found to have 'pink cocaine' in his system at the time of his death on October 16.

The drug said to have been traced is thought to be a concoction of methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA.

Police are now looking into the 31-year-old's death and have confirmed today (October 22) that toxicology reports are still incomplete. With this in mind, it will remain unclear how much of the substance was in his system.

This means that Payne's body cannot be returned to his family in the UK until the reports are done.

Payne's father, Geoff Payne, is currently in Argentina where he's been received updates from the authorities on their efforts of finding out what happened to the 'Get Low' hitmaker in the run up to his untimely death.

According to Sky News, Andrés Esteban Madrea has told Mr Payne about the toxicology and histopathological exams being incomplete.

Elsewhere, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No 16 has said it was investigating the incident as an 'inconclusive death'.

It said five witnesses were questioned in order to reconstruct what happened at the CasaSur Hotel in the Palermo area of Buenos Aires.

Reports say staff at the hotel made two calls to emergency services, with audio revealing a staff member had asked for assistance for a guest who was 'intoxicated by drugs and alcohol'.

Police officers and the emergency services found Payne dead at the scene and his body was transferred to the judicial morgue.

The prosecutor’s office indicated the musician was alone when the fall occurred and said he appeared to be 'going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse'.
