From flip phones and video tapes to Troll dolls and Tamagotchis - there are definitely shedloads of things we all seem to get nostalgic over from the 1990s.

One of which was the hit 1992 comedy, Wayne's World, starring a young Mike Myers and Dana Carvey.

After over three decades since the film's initial release, fans are now left wondering whether they'll receive another instalment of the franchise, following an ambiguous post on Carvey's Instagram.

Wayne's World was the epitome of the 1990s with the ripped denim jeans, plaid flannel shirts and a killer score to match.

In case you didn't know, the film follows Wayne (Myers) and Garth (Carvey) as they appear on a public access TV show and can't believe their luck after a local station reached out to hire them.

However, once a villain-type Benjamin Kane, played by Rob Lowe, takes over their beloved program - the duo soon realise that their show is no longer the same.

With a star-studded cast including the likes of Tia Carrere, who played Wayne's rocker love interest, Cassandra, alongside living legend Alice Cooper - it's no wonder that the movie gained such a cult following.

However, it has now been over 30 years since the first movie came out and fans all over have been hopeful that the peculiar pair could eventually grace our screens once again.

The film was soon followed by Wayne's World 2.

Taking to Instagram, Carvey caused a storm online of eager fans desperately trying to decipher an ambiguous post.

The photo shows the two in their old Wayne's World basement as if no years had passed at all - still in the same black trucker cap and baggy jeans ensemble.

Myers is reclining on a couch while Carvey paints him.

He captioned the post: "Garth says, 'I like to paint,'" along with the hashtag 'waynesworld'.

Despite only being posted less than a day ago, the picture has since amassed nearly 20,000 likes.

"The hell am I looking at here… is it 1992?" wrote one Instagram user.

Referencing one of the most iconic lines of the franchise, another wasn't alone in commenting: "We’re not worthy!"

"So dope!" a third added, "I hope it’s another film."

Another fan said: "Whaaaaat? What is this? Is this another film? Be still my beating heart!!"

"Please don't tease us!! Let's get a part 3!!!" posted a fifth.

While a final Instagram user commented: ""A trilogy?!?! Yes please!!"

However, Carvey has not yet responded to anything in the comments.

Last year, Wayne's World director, Penelope Spheeris, was asked by PopCulture.com about the possibility of a third film, to which she replied: " "I don't know. People send me storylines for Wayne's World 3 and my answer to them is, 'It's called intellectual property, guys, and that belongs to Paramount. So why don't you send your idea to Paramount?'."

But, if the opportunity arose, then she said that she would like to try something in the same vein as 2020's Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Regardless if a Wayne's World 3 is happening or not - it's clear that fans are definitely excited by the prospect.
