Although you might not have The Simpsons at the top of your watchlist right now, if you're a fan of anime you might change your mind after seeing our first glimpse of the incredible Death Note tribute episode.

Set to air on 30 October as part of the long-running cartoon's upcoming three-part Treehouse of Horror special, the episode has given the family and its setting a complete anime makeover – and the fans are loving it so far.

A number of first-look images and a clip from the episode, titled 'Death Tome', have emerged online, showing us how Lisa, Marge and Homer would look in the Japanese animation style.

The scene kicks off with Lisa stuck in a world filled with pollution and misery, only for a mysterious black book to fall from the sky and land at her feet.

After picking up the book, she opens at a page that reads: "Any person whose name is written in this DEATH TOME will meet their death... and be dead."

As well as its comedic beats, fans can't help but praise the authenticity of the animation – and there's a good reason for this.

The episode was created by South Korean studio DR Movie, which has helped with a number of projects before including Avatar: The Last Airbender, the animated series of The Batman and, of course, the original Death Note.

Anime fans are loving the teaser for the upcoming Halloween special.

According to Comicbook.com, the clip aired on a FOX station in Latin America, and The Simpsons' official Twitter page retweeted a still from the segment.

Fans are absolutely losing it over the revelation, with many in utter disbelief at seeing a show that's been running since the 90s getting the anime treatment.

As said by one on Twitter: "You're telling me the original animation studio that did work on Death Note is also doing The Simpsons parody whatsvdyehbr."

DR Movie helped to create the episode's authentic style.

Another wrote: "As someone who read the Death Note Simpsons comic, I'm SO happy this is finally happening."

A third added: "Alright, who had 'anime studio who did Death Note animates The Simpsons as a parody of such' on their 2022 bingo card?"

Others were just excited at the idea, with one stating: "Wait….IS SIMPSONS DOING A DEATH NOTE PARODY, sign me the f**k up to see this!"

'Death Tome' is one of three Treehouse of Horror specials.

Another said: "Wow I can’t wait this Sunday I’m super excited."

And the show's creators aren't stopping there, as they've also got two other parody episodes for the spooky season on The Babadook and Westworld.

For the anime fans out there, 'Death Tome' airs on October 30 on FOX stations before streaming on Hulu the following day.
