RuPaul’s Drag Race has announced the cast for its 14th season, including its first straight cisgender male queen.

The hit reality show will kick off its next season on January 7 next year, with 14 queens going head-to-head for the $100,000 grand prize and the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar. For UK viewers, it’ll broadcast on WOW Presents Plus on January 8.

As part of a ‘Meet the Queens’ event earlier this week ahead of the premiere, hosted by season 13 winner Symone, fans learned the cast will include the show’s first-ever cisgender, heterosexual queen.

Maddy Morphosis, from Fayetteville, Arkansas, will break new ground as a cisgender, straight competitor. ‘The game is on! And I’m excited to officially announce that I’m a contestant on season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race!’ she wrote on Instagram, as well as describing herself as a camp comedy queen.

Unfortunately, as one would sadly expect, the news was met with bigotry from certain corners of social media. ‘Still processing everything, and I’ll speak more when I’m in a better headspace to do so. But I will go ahead and say, if you’re being racist, transphobic or misogynistic towards anyone, you can f*ck right off. Go touch grass,’ Maddy also tweeted.

It’s been met with support from Maddy’s followers, with one writing, ‘I can’t believe the hatred of some people in the community. They fight for discrimination and inclusion, but they discriminate, it makes no sense. Drag is for EVERYONE!’

Another wrote, ‘I know it’s going to be hard, but ignore the toxic side of the fandom. I’m really excited to see what you can do!’ A third replied, ‘Babes you’re beautiful don’t let any of those haters make you feel this way you deserve your spot in this competition and I can’t wait to see the looks you come up with.’
