Shannen Doherty has passed away at the age of 53 following a breast cancer diagnosis.

The actor - best known for her roles in 90210, Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210 - was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and spoke openly about her journey with her health.

Earlier today (14 July), Doherty's publicist confirmed that she's since passed away.

In 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with 'invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node'.

She underwent a single mastectomy, chemotherapy and other treatments and two years after the actor revealed she was in remission.

However, in 2020, she was told by doctors her cancer had returned, diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

She carried on with treatment, sharing her journey along the way, but in 2023, she discovered her cancer had metastasized to her brain and spread to her bones.

Later that year she underwent surgery which removed 'almost all' of the tumor from her brain and went on a new infusion plan in early 2024, but sadly she 'lost her battle with cancer' yesterday (13 July).

Doherty's publicist told People: "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty.

"On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease."

And it's not taken long for fans of the actor to flood to social media to pay their respects.

Actor Eric West wrote: "My heart is broken. It was a pleasure to meet Shannen Doherty while filming our movie Fortess a little over two years ago! She was full of warm energy and positive vibes. So young. So talented. May she rest well."

"Another one of my childhood heroes gone. Shannen Doherty left us way too soon. Thanks for the ever iconic Brenda Walsh & Prue Halliwell," a Twitter user wrote.

A third commented: "rip shannen doherty :( you will be very missed, thank you for playing such a monumental part in my childhood."

And a fourth resolved: "A day of mourning rn for the charmed stans Shannen Doherty you will always be a tv icon."
