Netflix fans say they have been left furious by a movie sequel that they 'waited five years for', to the point that they have a suspicious theory about it.
Based on a popular comic book series, this American superhero franchise has all the hallmarks of a great movie.
It follows the plot of a group of mercenaries who have the supernatural ability to heal themselves and live, seemingly forever, with their immortal superpowers with some knockout action and plot twists thrown in between - or at least in the cast of the first movie, which landed on Netflix in 2020 with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 80 percent.

However, its sequel, which came to the platform just last week on Wednesday (July 2) has gone down more like a lead balloon.
The Old Guard 2 sees stars, Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne and Matthias Schoenaerts among others, return to the movie to follow on from the events seen in the first film, while being treated to the additions of Henry Golding and Hollywood legend Uma Thurman.
However, this may be where the treat ends as critics note there isn't much of a story to really follow.

The movie has nosedived in ratings compared to its first, scoring a mere 23 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with critics blasting it as 'bogged down by tedious lore and lackluster execution'.
Kelechi Ehenulo from Empire Magazine penned that the wait for The Old Guard 2 created 'too much distance' for the second movie to feel memorable, 'and it shows'.
"A convoluted, sequel-baiting mess that proves time is not a healer," she added.

Now, angry viewers have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts with some in agreement that it 'sucked' due to one thing.
As one Redditor wrote: "To wait five years for a sequel to such an original story sucked as it is, but to then receive what we got as the final product was just a slap in the face to the audience.
"The entire premise seemed like it was generated using AI along with the script. Everything was just so choppy and the movie felt like it had absolutely zero substance to it.

"I'd almost rather pretend we never got a sequel at all."
A second chimed that the follow-up was 'complete and utter trash,' adding: "Not even fun trash like you can watch it for fun and make fun of it. It was just so bad. Then it just sort of ended abruptly.
"Truly, unbelievably bad."
Others said they even began to question the Golden Globe actress' involvement in the movie - and if she was also made with artificial intelligence.

"I'm starting to question if Charlize Theron is actually a good actress or was I just blinded for years," another comment read, to which a second agreed: "She acted like she was in a school play."
"Even the acting sucked!" the Redditor continued. "How is it possible to have such great actors in the movie and it felt like they were doing Twilight II. Really wooden performances, low effort dialogue, no rhyme or reason."
"My wife and I definitely thought Charlize Theron's face was AI," a third weighed in.
