Keanu Reeves training for John Wick: Chapter 4 shows just how brutal it is

Keanu spent three months training for the film

The training that Keanu Reeves underwent for John Wick: Chapter 4 looks absolutely brutal.

Keanu has even confessed that, because of the intense training, it's probably the 'hardest physical role [he's] ever had in [his] career'.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated fourth instalment of the John Wick franchise, a behind-the-scenes teaser has been released to tide fans over.

In the teaser, Keanu reveals it took an exhausting three months of training to perfect the film's demanding action scenes - including nunchucks, shoot outs, and car stunts.

"The training went longer than three months. And it was five days a week, four hours a day. So it was a two-hour morning session, lunch, two hour afternoon session," Keanu shared.

"For me, it's just been awesome to work with these stunt people and... what they shared with us was the affection they have for this genre of film.

"John Wick action is a little different. It's a lot because Chad [Stahelski] wants reality, he wants the beautiful violence. And so do we, and so do they."

Explaining why the training had to be so intense, the film's stunt coordinator Scott Rogers added: "John Wick fights are known for Keanu doing most of it, and for big long takes and wide lenses - it has a very specific style.

"And I wanted to honour that style, I didn't want it to become this cut-y edit-y shaky cam. I wanted to live in that John Wick world. To do that, you have to have Keanu Reeves doing the stuff."

In an earlier interview with Total Film, Keanu admitted that this film 'was the hardest physical role I’ve ever had in my career so far.'

He added: "They really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox.”

One of the tools in Keanu's toolbox is stunt-driving, which he says the team took 'to the next level' in this flick.

"There’s 180s, forward-into-reverse 180s, reverse into-forward 270s, drifting… So it was really fun to get a chance to learn those skills, and to play."

For John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu will be joined by Laurence Fishburne who is also reprising his role as the Bowery King, while Ian McShane and Lance Reddick return as the manager and concierge of the Continental Hotel.

John Wick 4 hits theatres later this month.

Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown and Rina Sawayama will also star.

Producers have remained tight-lipped on the specifics about John Wick's next adventure, but what they have shared is: "With the price on his head ever increasing, legendary hitman John Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Japan to Berlin."

John Wick: Chapter 4 will hit theatres on 24 March.
