Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet have broken up after 16 years together.
The Aquaman star met Bonet in a Los Angeles jazz club back in 2004. They wed in a secret ceremony in October 2017 after dating for more than a decade; it was Momoa’s first marriage and Bonet’s second after her earlier marriage to Lenny Kravitz from 1987 to 1993, with whom she shares The Batman star Zoë Kravitz.
Momoa, 42, and Bonet, 54, have two children together: their son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa, 13, and daughter Lola Iolani Momoa, 14.

Momoa posted a joint statement on behalf of him and Bonet, who’s not on social media, explaining why they’re splitting up.
‘We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… a revolution is unfolding – and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring [right now],’ the post reads.
‘And so, we share our family news, that we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy, but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become.
‘Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life and our children… teaching our children what’s possible, living the prayer may love prevail,’ it concludes.

In an interview ahead of Dune‘s release last year, Momoa spoke about the differences between him in real life and his on-screen hero persona. ‘I may look big and tough, but I’m not. I’m nothing like Khal Drogo. I’m not even the king of my own house! I’m absolutely terrified of my wife,’ he joked.
During a 2017 appearance on James Corden’s The Late Late Show, he also recalled, ‘Ever since I was like, eight years old and I saw [Bonet] on the TV, I was like, ‘Mommy, I want that one’. I’m like, ‘I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you’.
‘I didn’t tell her that until we had two babies, otherwise, I’d be creepy and weird. But yeah, just always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always,’ he added.
