Given the early buzz around the movie from awards festivals has seen Fraser receive so many standing ovations, all signs point towards this being an incredible movie where the actor will be able to shine.

The movie, directed by Darren Aronofsky, follows the story of reclusive and overweight teacher Charlie (Fraser) trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink) after he left his family for another man and turned to comfort eating to cope with the grief of his new partner's death.

Fans watching the trailer have been raving over what they've seen of Fraser.

One person wrote that they were 'expecting to have a panic attack, to be traumatized, and to bawl my eyes out' while watching The Whale, but 'all in the best way'.

Another said they were expecting to see 'an amazing comeback performance' from the actor', while a third said it would be 'the biggest justice' if Fraser won an Oscar for his part in the movie.

Plenty of others are just happy to see him back on their screens after several difficult years in his life, welcoming back a 'legend' who 'deserves this so much'.

The Whale releases in cinemas on 9 December in the US.
