A 56-year-old grandma has volunteered to help her son and his wife extend their family by stepping in as their surrogate.

Nancy Hauck, from Utah, US, had offered to carry her son's baby after his wife, Cambria, 30, had a traumatic birth with their twins, explaining to her son, Jeff, 32, that she thought she should be the one to carry his baby.

"I never imagined I would be pregnant at 56 or that this would be possible, but it is the most beautiful thing," Nancy explained.

Jeff and Cambria already have two sets of twins but wanted to extend their family.

However, following the traumatic birth of their youngest kids, Cambria underwent a hysterectomy.

Wanting to expand their family but left with few options, Nancy volunteered to help.

She underwent tests to see if she was medically fit to carry the baby, explaining: "I told them I was willing but that I thought I would be old.

“But to my surprise medics said I was healthy and could do it and here I am."

Nancy started hormone treatment after getting the go-ahead from doctors and injected herself every day for 12 weeks.

Once the hormone treatment was complete, doctors transferred one of Jeff and Cambria's embryos into Nancy.

And it was successful, with Nancy saying the couple 'were over the moon when we found out for certain a few days later that I was pregnant.'

Admittedly, it wasn't a position Nancy expected to be in, but it felt familiar. "The pregnancy has been very similar to carrying my son, but I’ve been a bit more nauseous," she said.

Still, Nancy's husband, Jeff, and Cambria have helped her through, with Cambria attending every prenatal appointment.

Despite the sickness, Nancy seems happy with her choice, saying she feels 'very powerful carrying my son’s daughter'.

Cambria is incredibly thankful for her mother-in-law's selfless act, adding: "She is sacrificing so much for us, and our family and we just feel so grateful.

"It has been so miraculous and beautiful to watch Nancy carry our sweet baby girl."

And, apparently, the grandmother looks better than ever. "They say pregnancy comes with a glow, but Nancy’s is a full-on lighthouse."

Jeff was just as excited, adding: "We're just grateful and excited for the beautiful new life coming to our family.

"Being a dad has always been my dream, I adore each of my kids and take my role & responsibility as their dad very seriously. And the opportunity to be the dad to another beautiful baby girl is the greatest gift and blessing I could receive."

As you can imagine, the couple is incredibly excited to welcome their new little one.
