American writer Quinta Brunson took the opportunity to finish her Emmys speech in a particularly unusual setting.

Fans are finding the situation hilarious.

Watch it here:

Quinta Brunson was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary.

After not being able to finish her acceptance speech at the awards ceremony, Brunson took it upon herself to finish it elsewhere - the Jimmy Kimmel show to be exact.

Brunson began her speech asking Kimmel: "I have a little favour to ask actually."

She continued: "You know, when you win an Emmy, you only have 45 seconds to do an acceptance speech which is, like, not that much time.

Kimmel nods in agreement as Brunson carries on: "And then you get less time because someone does a dumb comedy bit that goes on a bit too long."

"You know I have heard of that happening in previous years," Kimmel jokes as the audience erupt in laughter.

Brunson asked: "Well, I was wondering or, you know, demanding if I have a couple of extra minutes to thank a couple of extra people."

Kimmel immediately agreed to the 'demand' and said: "Oh to thank some people? Absolutely! Take all the time you like," after walking to the back of the stage, "I'll go stand back here."

In true Emmy fashion, Brunson then takes the stage gracefully holding her award as the theme music begins.

"Okay, so thank you again to the academy for this amazing honour."

Brunson then ran down an extensive list of all the names she wanted to thank alongside, 'all of the fans of the show and the internet for raising me'.

Ending with a joke, Brunson's final thanks was to all the 'Abbott Elementary writers watching', in which she advised them 'now, please go to bed, we have work tomorrow'.

The crowd cheered as Brunson concluded: "Even though you're adults and I have no jurisdiction over when you sleep."

Taking to Twitter, thousands have since flocked to share their reactions to Brunson's iconic speech.

"Glad she handled it in jest like the queen she is," posted one Twitter user.

Another wrote: "She did a huge kindness for him (Kimmel) to be honest, playing the game, staying gracious, allowing him to do the 'aw shuck shuffle.'"

"As she should!" a third added.

While some were congratulating Brunson's speech, others were voicing their frustration with the talk show host.

One person wrote: "This p*ssed me off because this man literally took her f***ing moment on stage…"

Others opted to point out how the camerawork was pretty impressive when Brunson was shot front and centre and Kimmel seemingly disappeared into the background.

"The camera adjusting so that Jimmy isn't in frame," pointed out another, followed by a laughing emoji.

The sitcom Abbott Elementary is available to stream on Prime Video, Hulu and Disney+.
