A make-up artist has claimed to have impersonated Jim Carrey at a recent awards in Paris amid rumours that the actor had a 'clone' pretend to be him for the night.
On Thursday night (February 26), Carrey was awarded an Honorary César at this year's awards in the French capital, which is presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma.
Carrey was surrounded by his loved ones for the special evening, but because of his apparent 'new look' it was suggested that it wasn't actually Carrey who attended, but a body double.
Sharing a clip of an interview the actor did after the awards, somebody penned on Twitter: "You can’t convince me they didn’t clone Jim Carrey."

Another person suggested: "I could see Jim Carrey hiring a body double to see if anyone would notice. Seems very in character for him to do."

A third also wrote: "Clearly it’s not him. Doppelgänger? Sad attempt at a body double or clone? Will the real Jim Carrey please stand up?!?!"
Adding fuel to the fire, make-up artist Alexis Stone — who is known for impersonating famous faces – has shared a photo to Instagram of a prosthetic face mask resembling that of Carrey, alongside a set of teeth.
"Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris," he captioned the photo.
The post has sparked quite the frenzy on social media, with even Megan Fox weighing in on the drama.
She commented: "I can’t handle any more stress right now i need to know if this is real."
"I need the real Jim Carrey to confirm," a different person insisted, as a third wrote: "And I'm obsessed with the conspiracy."
However, both Carrey's rep and Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, have confirmed that the Yes Man and Bruce Almighty star was in fact in attendance at the awards night.
It's also been strongly suggested that the photo shared by Stone of the prosthetic mask was AI.
In a statement shared with Variety, Caulier said: "Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.
"He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again."
Elsewhere, in a statement to LADbible Group, his rep told us: "Jim Carrey did attend the César Awards."
UNILAD have approached Alexis Stone's reps for comment.
