Actor Blake Lively has explained how she and husband and Ryan Reynolds have made their relationship work with one simple rule.

With celebrities being in the spotlight, their relationships often come under a lot of scrutiny.

There is constant focus on who they are dating, why they broke up, how their ex feels about the new relationship, whatever.

But one thing that can often put a smile on your face is when two celebrities seem to have a loving, heartfelt relationship.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds seem to be that couple as they have been married since 2012, have four children and appear to still be going strong.

The pair met back in 2010 on the set of The Green Lantern but the pair were already in other relationships, Reynolds with Scarlett Johansson and Lively with Penn Badgley.

When both their relationships came to an end, the actors got together in 2011 to star their budding romance.

While many couples have rules like not going to bed angry or even being able to say I love you after an argument, the pair had to address the fact that they are both actors for their relationship to work.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Lively said: “When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time.

“So that we could always prioritize our personal life."

During an appearance on former co-star Amber Tamblyn's Substack series Further Ado, Lively went into more detail about this rule and explained how it helped keep the couple on track.

Lively also spoke about the commitment to the rule after the couple had children.

Lively also spoke about the commitment to the rule after the couple had children, because as you can imagine, it wasn’t always easy.

“That takes working really hard when we're not.

“Just like financial planning and sustaining that — it takes balance.

“I'm used to working hard and going and going and going and going and not stopping. Especially, Gossip Girl was six years of my life, and we were sometimes shooting three episodes at once.”

Speaking to Access Hollywood in 2020, Reynolds said how much he enjoys the rule and make the most of it.

“We don’t split up," Reynolds said. "Like, I shoot movies and my wife shoots movies and we go travel all over the place, and we just all go together.

“I think that’s been the best part of it is that we really don’t spend a lot of time apart. I get to spend a lot of time with my girls.”
