Kesha says Jerry Seinfeld refusing to hug her was saddest moment of her life

The singer's awkward exchange with the comedian went viral after being caught on camera

We all have that one awkward interaction that keeps us awake at night, right?

Maybe you've accidentally punched someone in the stomach while getting confused between a handshake and a hug, or responded with a cheery 'you too!' to a waiter telling you to enjoy your meal.

It's embarrassing, but at least these moments aren't usually caught on camera for the whole world to see. Unless you're Kesha, that is.

The pop star had her blunder broadcast to the world back in 2017, when she approached Seinfeld star Jerry Seinfeld and told him she 'loved him so much'.

The comedian responded with a polite, 'thank you so much', but when Kesha asked him for a hug, he wasn't so accommodating.

In fact, Seinfeld said no three times, even taking a step backwards when she insisted it would be a 'little one'.

Kesha walked away rejected, and reflected on the cringe-worthy moment during a recent appearance on The Best Show with Tom Scharpling.

She explained she'd been asked to go to the 2017 charity event while in the middle of her tour, and though she was 'exhausted', she'd heard Seinfeld was going to be there.

"I used to take my computer, when there was a CD [slot], and I would carry it around the world, internationally, little DVDs so that when it would get bumpy on planes I would pop in Seinfeld," Kesha said, adding: "I would just be like, 'everything's okay in the world'.

"So then I get to the charity event... and then he didn't hug me in front of cameras and it was the most depressing, and hilarious, but also so sad... it was like the saddest moment of my life."

Kesha described the encounter as 'depressing'.

Though the incident obviously lives rent-free in Kesha's head, Seinfeld has defended himself over the exchange.

Speaking to Extra back in 2017, he said: "I'm 63, I don't know every pop star… I don't know everyone. I was right in the middle of an interview, it was a little off.

“When you get to be my age and you've done a couple things, you have your own reality, in my reality… I don't hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I gotta start somewhere… hug isn't first moment of a human, two humans. I never did that.”

The comedian went on to insist that he was 'sure [he] would've liked' Kesha, but insisted he needed to know who she was before embracing her.

Well, he definitely knows who she is now. Maybe Kesha should try again?
