JK Rowling Trans Activists’ Tweet Against Author ‘Not Criminal’, Police Say

Police investigating the alleged doxing of JK Rowling’s address by trans rights activists have said that there was ‘no criminality’ in their actions.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 17, Police Scotland confirmed that they would not be bringing charges against the three activists, who in a since-deleted post shared images of themselves stood outside the Harry Potter author’s home.
Responding to the tweet in November, Rowling, 58, alleged that she had been the victim of ‘doxing’ – the public release of someone’s private information, such as their address or phone number – claiming she was targeted for ‘speaking up for women’s sex-based rights’.
‘My family’s address was posted on Twitter by three activist actors who took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible,’ she said, per Sky News.
Rowling first emerged as the subject of controversy after making what many claim to be transphobic comments questioning the decision of a publication to refer to biologically-female people as ‘people who menstruate’.
‘I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?’ she wrote, prompting backlash from trans activists and allies.
In a follow-up blog post, Rowling attempted to clarify her views, writing that ‘trans rights are human rights and of course trans lives matter’, however subsequent comments made by the author have drawn further criticism from activists and condemnation from several leading LGBTQ+ groups.
As a result, she has become something of a magnet for culture war debates, with ‘anti-woke’ voices stepping in to defend her from what they perceive to be her ‘cancellation’.
Rowling has been the topic of further controversy in recent months after she did not participate in the Harry Potter reunion special Return to Hogwarts, instead seen only through archive footage recorded in 2019.
The author confirmed it had been her choice to appear, however prior to the special all three of the film’s main stars – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – had publicly spoken out to say they did not agree with Rowling’s views on trans people.
The reunion’s producers denied that the controversy surrounding Rowling had played any part in her not attending the special alongside the rest of the cast and crew.
