Harry Potter's Evanna Lynch Speaks Out On Cast 'Respect' For JK RowlingAlamy

Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch has shared an insight into the views of her fellow cast members in regards to JK Rowling’s controversial opinions.

Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood in the hit fantasy series, discussed her involvement in the films and whether she would be willing to work with Rowling again during an appearance on GB News this morning, January 11.

See her interview below:

Speaking to hosts Eamonn and Isabel, the actor explained that she didn’t ‘see how’ she could turn down the opportunity to star in another of Rowling’s films, even after the author faced accusations of transphobia.

The author did not appear in a recent Harry Potter reunion, which marked 20 years since the release of the first film, but Lynch denied there was a rift between Rowling and the cast as she said, ‘I think there’s things we don’t all agree with and don’t understand.’

She went on to say that she has spoken to her fellow cast members and that ‘they all have great respect for her if they don’t agree with her beliefs’.

Lynch continued, ‘She has her beliefs and she’s doing her thing. It’s been a very difficult conversation and I don’t want us to keep fighting so I reject that narrative there’s been a cold shoulder.’

As for why Rowling did not appear in the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, Lynch said, ‘I think she’s busy writing books, I don’t think that’s about conversations that have been had about more controversial issues. I think she was busy. She’s still a big part of it.’

Though Lynch has implied the cast is on relatively good terms with Rowling, a number of Harry Potter stars have previously appeared to distance themselves from Rowling’s beliefs.

In a statement released in June 2020, Daniel Radcliffe wrote that ‘transgender women are women’, adding, ‘Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.’

Lynch herself also shared a statement in 2020 in which she said she would not be ‘helping to marginalise trans women and men further’. She added, ‘I applaud the immense bravery they show in embracing themselves and think we all should listen to their stories.’

Rowling has previously been forced to call the police after activists protesting her views shared her address online.
