James Gunn Says Peacemaker Season 2 Will Still Go Ahead After Batgirl Movie Got Cancelled

The Guardians of the Galaxy director even posted a photo from behind the scenes of season two.

James Gunn has confirmed that Peacemaker is not getting axed from HBO following Warner Bros' cancellation of Batgirl.

The Guardians of the Galaxy director gave fans PEACE of mind, assuring them the Suicide Squad spin-off series would not be pulled from the network.

One fan tweeted: “Is ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 safe?”

Gunn responded: “Yes, guys, calm down.”

But for those especially sceptical, the 55-year-old even posted a photo of Jennifer Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt in the show, behind the scenes, all bloodied up while eating a salad.

That oughta put the rumours to rest.

Many fans eagerly awaiting season two reacted to the post, with one person writing: “Salad Bloody Salad.”

Another said: “Most violent salad ever?”

While another commented: “Ready for season 2.”

Fans were left wondering about the show’s future after Batgirl was abruptly dropped by Warner Bros. The studio decided they would not be releasing it on any platform, despite the project being almost completed.

The movie, with a reported $70m (AUD $100.63m or £58m) budget, was scrapped earlier this week due to the film’s poor audience response at screen testings, according to New York Post.

The Guardian reports that Ms Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah got the film greenlit in 2021 as part of an initiative for Warner Bros. to make films suitable for streaming on HBO Max.

After the studio made the announcement, the directors issued a joint statement via Instagram: “We are saddened and shocked by the news.

“We still can’t believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves.

"Maybe one day they will Insha’Allah.”

The film’s star Leslie Gordon also took to social media to share one of her favourite Batgirl quotes in light of the cancellation.

She wrote: “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me.

“And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts. - Batgirl, Year One.”

Deadline Senior Film Reporter Justin Kroll also disclosed via Twitter he got a call from a rival studio executive who slammed the move as ‘unprecedented’.

While we’re devastated Batgirl won’t take flight anytime soon, we’re still hanging out for Peacemaker season two.
