There are a lot of things from the 2000s that would cause confusion today, and it seems that includes celebrity crushes.
If you can cast your mind back to the year 2005 in particular, you'll remember that the first YouTube video was uploaded, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston split up and Madonna released Confessions on a Dance Floor.
Over at MTV in October of that year, Seventeen magazine asked its readers about the hottest MTV Video Music Award nominees and the four names may surprise you.

It should come as no surprise that the four lucky lads are all well-known musicians ranging in genre from hip hop to punk rock.
In fourth place, we have Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance with 12 percent of the reader's vote.
One fan was quoted for each man to explain ‘why he’s hot’ and 16-year-old Serenity said: ‘His voice is so beautiful and mournful. Plus I have a thing for guys who aren’t afraid to wear makeup.
"To me, a real man is someone who can both look pretty and kick butt!”

Next up is Brandon Flowers of The Killers with 18 percent of the vote.
“The way he talks, sings and laughs is just sexy,” And 18-year-old Natalie claims. “No one can move the way he does!”
The Real Slim Shady has been on a bunch of ‘best rapper of all time’ lists, but it’s fair to say he’s often overlooked for his purported sexiness.

But there are people out there who love his looks as much of his music who helped him into joint second place with Brandon Flowers.
This includes 14-year-old Janeene, who gushed: “Some say his ‘rough image’ makes him hot, but I think it’s the fact that he’s so real and down-to-earth.”
Billie Joe Armstrong may not want to be an ‘American Idiot’, but he was probably quite chuffed with finishing in first place, with 22 percent of the vote.

The Green Day front man’s dark hair, tattoos and eyeliner probably had something to do with it.
“It’s not just his looks that make him easy on the eyes,” fan Jensen, 14, said at the time. “He has the voice of an angel - a very angry one.”
And the runners up include 50 Cent (12 percent), The Game (6 percent), Pharrell Williams (5 percent), Chris Martin (4 percent), Jack White (2 percent) and Common (1 percent).
A scan image of the magazine page has gone viral on social media, particularly Reddit, where people are debating the four men in the top positions.

“Three of them are wearing the same outfit,” one Reddit user complained.
Another commenter joked: “2005 was a simpler time, all men needed was a black kohl eyeliner pencil and a pair of hair straighteners and they were hot.”
And a third confessed: “I put Billie Joe’s picture in a locket and wore it every day.”
Someone else penned: “I’m surprised Pete Wentz isn’t on this list since ‘Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down’ was on repeat on MTV in 2005. I was so into him thanks to that video.”
One Reddit commenter shared: “Stunned that Common only got 1 percent.”
“Omg the amount of guy liner in this,” a fan lamented.
While one savage Reddit user commented: “17 year old me did not find any of them attractive. 35 year old me doesn’t either.”
